NUPATH Practitioner Membership
- Hours of training/study (see below)

- NUPATH accepts that distance education is a valid alternative to in-class work provided it is done carefully and involves a clinical component
Who Can Join?
ACTIVE MEMBER: Practitioner members who have graduated from a recognized school of homeopathic medicine and who meet the standards of education and training set by NUPATH. They will be listed on the NUPATH register of practioners. Annual Fee: $250
ASSOCIATE MEMBER: Those practicing as health-care professionals with an interest in promoting homeopathy or referring clients to homeopaths. $30.00 per year
STUDENT MEMBER: Those students enrolled in a course of study in the field of health-care, which includes a component on homeopathy. (Special rates are available for full-time students). $50.00 per year (students who are employed in a job); $25.00 per year (students who are not employed in any job)
SUPPORTING MEMBER: Those persons/organizations interested in furthering the objectives of NUPATH. $25.00 per year
Homeopathic Training requirements for active members — (total of 3,500 hours):
Training includes:
- history of homeopathy
- philosophy and principles
- materia medica
- human sciences
- clinical (a minimum of 10 actual cases with at least six months of follow-up each)
Measurement/Assessment of Study Time
It is recognized that students today, given the growth of adult education, innovative learning methods and new technologies, may study completely in-class, completely through distance learning or a combination of class hours and self-study. NUPATH accepts the validity of all such methods provided the curriculum in each case follows the framework established in Annex A.
The proportion of student contact time to home study depends upon the subject taught and the methods used for teaching. For more theoretical subjects fewer contact hours and more home study hours may be more appropriate. This model also applies for the medical sciences, which require a great deal of external study; and clinical training as the bulk of the analytical work done by the student is completed after the consultation is over.
Some topics in the curriculum, including human sciences, will be woven throughout the program as well as possibly being addressed separately, depending on the approaches used and the inclinations of the teachers.
It is, thus, recognized that it is difficult to adopt any one method of measuring study time that will be equally applicable and fair to all schools given the diversity of approaches to learning and the nature of the curriculum, which is wholistic and not simply informational and linear in nature.
Thus, NUPATH has established only approximate ratio of hours of study for each main area of study:
Philosophy and Principles (approx. 20% of the time) Materia Medica (approx. 20% of the time) Therapeutics and Clinical (approx. 20% of the time) Human Sciences (approx. 20% of the time) Other areas (approx. 20% of the time)
In-Class Approaches Where a school has in-class or student contact hours, including both seminars and tutorials, as well as clinical sessions, these can be taken to constitute a measure of study time on the following basis: one hour of contact time = ~ 4-6 hours of study time depending on how much emphasis is placed on contact versus self-study.
Distance Learning Approaches Where a school has only or primarily distance learning approaches to learning, this will require a general assessment of the curriculum to determine to what extent it meets the intent and spirit of the educational standards set by NUPATH.
Educational Committee Assessment In all cases, the assessment will require consideration by members of the Educational Standards Committee of the published material of the school, possible interview with officials, faculty and students to assess the degree to which the school holds to and promotes a professional level of education and training for practitioners consistent with NUPATH's standards.
Accreditation
NUPATH accredits schools who meet the training requirements. Applicants from schools not accredited by NUPATH can apply for membership provided they meet the stated requirements.
Continuing Education
All active members must fulfill annual continuing education requirements in order to maintain their membership status and the right to use the designation of Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine. Continuing education is a critical means of ensuring that the public has access to high quality homeopathic practitioners.
All active members must sign a form with their annual renewal application indicating what they have undertaken to complete the requirements for continuing education.
