Homeopaths often receive complaints from patients that their private health insurance does not cover homeopathy. Next time you get one, suggest to the patient that they write their insurer about it! With enough public pressure, insurance companies will see the light; they are already beginning
to. Here is a sample letter, used in the offices of Board Members Rudi Verspoor and Patty Smith, that they have photocopied and made available for their patients whose insurance companies are more discriminatory. Feel free to copy and share this! (For a text version, please click here.)

Dear _______ :
I am writing to request that your company provide coverage/increase its
current coverage for health services provided by homeopathic physicians.
I/my family/my spouse/my child(ren) has/have been treated by a local
homeopath and have seen substantial/ improvement/complete removal of the
condition I/he/she/they were suffering from.
The condition involved was _______________________________________.
Thanks to this homeopathic treatment, our drug bills and visits to
allopathic physicians have been reduced significantly/eliminated. Previous
treatment by the traditional medical system was unsuccessful at removing the
condition and only provided symptomatic relief at best.
I believe that my choice of seeking homeopathic treatment should be fully
recognised by your company. It represents a significant saving in health
costs that would otherwise have continued to be charged to my plan in terms
of ongoing drugs and allopathic physician visits. Homeopathic treatment will
mean lower costs to all concerned and a higher level of overall health to my
family.
Homeopathy is a valid system of medicine worldwide. It is legally practised
in Ontario and is used by the British and Dutch Royal Families, as well as
millions of others. Homeopathy addresses the root cause of illness rather
than just treating the symptoms. It is highly effective in acute as well as
chronic illnesses.
My homeopath is a registered member of NUPATH (National United Professional
Association of Trained Homeopaths), which has specific standards for practice
and a code of ethics for members. Your company should provide reimbursement
for all visits to such homeopathic physicians.
I look forward to your reply to my request.
Sincerely, (etc.)
